The Book Club

These are the books covered so far! The Book Club can provide students with reading material for personal statements or even just to spark your interest in a particular field of science. If you have personally come across a great book related to STEM, why not recommend it for future reads using the feedback MS Form.

The Current Book we're reading is Fragile Lives (Prof. Stephen Westaby). This book recounts the many stories of a working-class mans' medical career who became a word-class and groundbreaking cardiac surgeon before the impedement by teh NHS bureacracy that we all know of today.

Here's a Testimonial from a Book Club Member...

"The Science Book Club is a new co-curricular activity for GCSE & A-Level Science students to explore the possibilities of careers and lives in the world of science. It's an excellent way for STEM students to figure out exactly what they are interested in if they are still struggling to find out!"

"The book is involved cover aspects related to biology, chemistry and physics and go into further detail about specialities in the science industry. So far, we have read three books, two from doctors, specialising in gynaecology and neurosurgery, and a book up on the human body and all aspects of it. These books are perfect for people who have little knowledge of the topics as they go into detail but in a manner that easy to understand".

"The best book so far is 'The Body' by Bill Bryson. It goes to every major aspect of the body, from the immune system to how humans breathe. It relates complicated actions to every day life activities and highlights how magnificent our bodies are. I highly recommend you to read these books, even if you're not interested in a scientific career as they are extremely interesting, and you can learn a great deal from these books."
